Casual Employment Pool
Mapoon Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from motivated and community-minded individuals to join our Casual Employment Pool.

Grants Officer
About this Position:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Grants Officer to establish and deliver a high-performing funding program aligned to Council’s priorities and objectives. Reporting to the Executive Manager Finance, you’ll lead the development of compelling grant applications, build meaningful relationships with funders, and Develop strategies to estimate and achieve annual income targets. This is a diverse, hands-on role where you’ll combine strategic thinking with strong execution, owning the end-to-end grants function while contributing to broader Council initiatives.
About the Role Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Establish funding priorities and develop grant applications to potential and current funders that correspond to these priorities.
- Coordinate reporting and acquittal requirements for grants received. · Develop strategies to estimate and achieve annual income targets.
- Contract management of successful grants.
- Identify and research potential grant opportunities from government, corporate and private funding sources to meet Council’s priorities
- Stay informed about current and upcoming grants, awards, and funding trends relevant to Council priorities and projects.
- Prepare and submit high-quality grant applications, proposals and supporting documents that align to Council priorities and projects.
- Collaborate with internal Departments and external Stakeholders to gather necessary information and support in projects in preparation for grant applications.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with funding bodies, community groups and internal stakeholders.
- Manage and monitor the progress of awarded grants and awards, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and deadlines.
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of grant funds.
This is a full-time position working 36.25 hours per week with a competitive salary on offer for the right person. Flexible working arrangements are available, including the option to work remotely, with periodic travel to Mapoon at least once every three months.
To be considered for the position you will need: Qualifications / Licences
- A relevant Degree or Diploma or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing, application, and management.
- Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain systems to manage dynamic work priorities, reporting and analysis of trends and results Contract management of successful grants.
- Proficiency and experience working in a grants management system.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, tight deadlines, and competing priorities. People Oriented Skills
- Demonstrated sound communication skills (written and verbal), including the demonstrated ability to produce high quality documentation such as grant and award submissions, briefing papers, and reports.
- Ability to work with pressure to meet tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- Ability to achieve results with a professional approach. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Ranger Administrator
About this Position:
The purpose of the Ranger Administrator is to support the Rangers Program by undertaking high level administration tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the Rangers program.
- Provide administrative support and relief to other Departments and locations at Council, including general receptionist and at the Cultural Centre.
- Draft and prepare correspondence, reports, minutes, presentations and other documents as required.
- Arrange and facilitate appointments and meetings.
- Maintain administration systems, including calendars, records, mail, filing and archiving of records.
- Undertake minor projects under direction and conduct research.
- Provide customer service duties including managing requests pertaining to Ranger Services.
- Other administrative duties as required and directed.
From time to time, you may also be required to undertake some Ranger activities which includes:
- Beach and coastline management
- Restoring and replanting areas including seed collection and propagation, planting up.
- Assist with the implementation of fire management workplans.
- carrying out biodiversity surveys: flora, fauna and cultural heritage
This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week. The Award salary range is $58,916.00 to $65,625.00 per annum.
To be considered for the position you will need:
- Current QLD Drivers Licence
- Certificate III in Business and Administration (or willingness to obtain)
- Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management (or willingness to obtain
- Sound computer skills, including experience with word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Accurate record keeping skills and high-level attention to detail.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
